The Board

Our Chair, six Board members, and six alternates are selected to represent the interests and mandate of the Ɂehdzo Got’ı̨nę Gots’ę́ Nákedı.

The Sahtú Secretariat Inc. nominates three Board members, plus alternates, from each of the three districts of the Sahtú Region: Délı̨nę, Tulı́t’a, and K’asho Got’ı̨nę.

The Government of the Northwest Territories, the Canadian Wildlife Service, and Fisheries and Oceans Canada each nominate the remainder of the Board members and alternates.

The Chair is nominated by the Board. Appointments are jointly approved by the federal Governor in Council and Executive Council of the Government of the Northwest Territories.

Donna Schear, Acting Chair

Donna SchearDonna Schear is Sahtúgot'ı̨nę (person from Great Bear Lake), grew up in Alberta and moved to Délı̨nę, Northwest Territories (NWT) when she finished high school. She currently resides in Yellowknife and is employed as an Engagement Specialist with the Mackenzie Valley Environmental Impact Review Board. Her educational background is the completion of the courses required for the Land Agent/Land Administration Diploma program from Olds College and a one-year Land Administration MACA program from Arctic College. Throughout her career with Indigenous, federal, and territorial governments, oil and gas operations, land management, safety and environmental protection and regulatory compliance brings and unique prospective. During her time in Délı̨nę, she was fortunate to spend time with her grandfather, the late Isadore Yukon, brother and partner which gave her a passion for the land and its teachings.  She currently sits as a member of the Délı̨nę Dene K’ǝ Dats’eredı Kǝ (Justice Council) for the 2nd term. Donna is looking forward to working with the SRRB and the knowledge she will gain.

George Barnaby, Member

GeorgeBarnaby1George Barnaby has lived on the land as a hunter and trapper and has been involved in development issues in his home community of Fort Good Hope and in the NWT for many years. George is active in self-government and has held positions as a Member of the Legislative Assembly for Sahtu Region, Vice-President of the Indian Brotherhood, Fort Good Hope Band Councillor, Fort Good Hope Settlement Councillor, and Sahtu Land Claims Negotiator. George has been a member of the Sahtú Land and Water Board since 2007. George served as the Ɂehdzo Got’ı̨nę Gots’ę́ Nákedı member from 2015 to 2020 and as an interim chair for many years.

Faye d'Eon-Eggertson, Member

fayeFaye d'Eon-Eggertson is a wildlife biologist with the territorial department of Environment and Natural Resources in Inuvik. From 2016-2019, she worked for Nááts'ihch'oh National Park Reserve based in Tulı́t'a. Her education is in biology and natural resource management.

Samuel Haché, Member

 SamHache 2Samuel Haché is a landbird biologist working for the Canadian Wildlife Service in the Yellowknife office.  Originally from New Brunswick, Sam has been working for CWS in the Northwest Territories for almost 6 years.  He completed his PhD at the University of Alberta and MSc at the Université de Moncton both in biology and animal ecology.  Sam is working actively with different communities across the Northwest Territories and has initiated community-based landbird monitoring programs in the Dehcho, Sahtú, and Tłı̨chǫ regions.  This is Sam's first term with the Ɂehdzo Got’ı̨nę Gots’ę́ Nákedı.

Gordon Hamre, Alternate

GordonHamreAfter more than 25 years’ work throughout the territorial north, Gordon retired from Parks Canada in 2012.  Over that period, he participated in main table negotiations for the Sahtu Comprehensive Agreement, and many others.  

Gordon led negotiations on behalf of Canada to establish Nááts’ihch’oh (2012), and Tuktut Nogait (both Inuvialuit Settlement Region (1996) and Sahtu Settlement Area (2005) components).  Gordon also led the federal team that was responsible for the commemoration of Saoyú-ʔehdacho National Historic Site in co-operation with the Délįne Renewable Resources Council and the Délįne Land Corporation.

Gordon also sits on the boards of the NWT Community Services Corporation (owner and operator of Northern United Place in Yellowknife), and of the NWT chapter of the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society.  He lives in Yellowknife and is a principal of Avens Associates Ltd., the only NWT-based landscape architecture firm.

Camilla Rabisca, Alternate

CamillaRabisca1Camilla Rabisca is K’ásho Got’ı̨nę and was born in Fort Good Hope. She is fluent in the Dene language and has extensive knowledge of the land in her family’s traditional territory. For 26 years, she and her husband lived off the land, hunting, fishing and trapping. Upon moving back to Fort Good Hope in the late 1980s, she worked with the local high school teaching traditional survival, hunting and fishing skills and continued to spend time on the land with her family. Camilla has also served as a Canadian Ranger since 1997.

Camilla sat on the local District Education Council for two terms and was an active member of the Ɂehdzo Got’ı̨nę, Hunter and Trappers Association and its successor, the Renewable Resources Council, for over sixteen years. Camilla is currently serving her fourth term, her previous terms were 2001-2011 and 2015-2020.
